I studied trumpet and piano at the Royal College of Music Junior Department for two years, followed by a further three years at Trinity College of Music, London. After leaving college I worked as an instrumental music teacher and a freelance professional trumpet player, with performance credits including Frank Sinatra, Shirley Bassey, Neil Diamond, Jamie Cullum, The Temptations, The Drifters at venues including The Royal Albert Hall, The Festival Hall & Glastonbury.

I have been teaching for 30 years now and during that time I have taught pupils from primary school age all the way up to adults in their seventies, from beginner to diploma level.
In 2011 (as a mature student) I completed an ALCM (Composition), followed by an LLCM (Composition) in 2012, with the London College of Music.
You can hear examples of my media music here.
And examples of my compositions for choirs here.
I subscribe to the DBS subscription service so my DBS status is always up to date. I can offer face-to-face lessons in the Holmfirth area or lessons via #Zoom to anywhere!
Testimonials from pupils and parents of pupils:

“What I gain from lessons – first of all the relaxed atmosphere makes learning easy, so what is taught stays in and this makes me feel I am getting value for my money and in turn brings on development” T.B. / Music theory & improvisation / Adult pupil
“My son really enjoys his lessons with Dorian who has encouraged a love of music and an interest in the versatility of the instrument.” I.P. / Parent of teenage jazz trumpet pupil
“The lessons I have with Dorian are fun because the exercises we do are enjoyable, which helps, because it makes you want to carry on.” H.H / Cornet / Teenage pupil
“Dorian has been a fantastic music teacher for over 5 years to my teenage son; the progression has been from beginner all the way to taking grade 7. This year lessons moved onto zoom which were also excellent and exceeded our expectations. There is formal feedback and constant encouragement and my son always looks forward to his lesson every week. I would totally recommend Dorian as a music tutor.” N.A. / Parent of teenage trombone pupil
